My new bp/w

Hello all. After researching and researching and researching I finally decided on the OMS 45lb bungeed wing, SS backplate and Comfort Harness. I started out looking at the OMS and went from there and researched about every bp/w I could think of and I ended up back with the OMS bungeed. Just a little advertisement for someone who deserves it. I ordered the system from John at Adirondack SCUBA in Upstate New York...www.Escuba.com. John was an absolute joy to work with and spent countless hours working with me answering my questioins and just talking SCUBA. I would recommend him to anyone. Also really good deals. His prices beat all others...
I dive wrecks in NC mostly and absolutely love this system. It is streamlined which gets me into wrecks so much easier than my old vest BCD. It also trims out to the point that things seem absolutely effortless. It keeps me so neutral that moving through corridors, rooms, in and out of tight spaces...is like cutting through butter. I dived on 2 wrecks yesterday and didn't kick up the first granule of silt. It was that neutral...I used a 3mm wetsuit with an 3AL 80 and didn't use the first lb of extra weight although I think I was just a tad positive. But it was hardly noticeable. I know alot of you dive different systems and love yours just as much, but I would recommend this system to anyone. And I want to say thanks to all of you on SB who have given inputs on different threads where I got ALOT of good information.
One last thing. I did read a couple people comment that a 45lb OMS wing was too much wing for singles...NOPE...I can put that opinion to rest. Like I said I dive with 3Al 80's most of the time since our wrecks are anywhere between 65-120 fsw and I just don't need that much air or EAN....The wing works just fine with singles...Even aluminum...Bobby

I too have been looking at this set up but was concerned about a bungee on the wing and the possibility of entanglement. Why is it necessary ? What was it that made you decide on OMS as opposed to the many other brands?

A few years ago there was an almost endless stream of posts about what were derisively called “bungeed wings of death”. The negatives always seem more hypothetical than real to me. Maybe some of the other posters can site an instance where a bungeed wing caused a problem on an actual dive. But if there have been no actual problems, or they are rare, maybe it would be better to live and let live.

I do not dive a bungeed wing, but it just seems better to solve real problems rather than hypothetical ones.

I noticed the website listed below your post...I have purchased 100 of the wrist bands and have been selling them for a couple of months now...

I have read about the "Bungeed Wings of Death." I actually posted a thread about the subject awhile ago. That was back when I was doing research on bp/w's. Most everyone thought it was nonsense. I tend to agree with Mr Carcharodon about the hypotheticals. I tend to think it was a negative ad type situation. I haven't heard of any cases of someone dying using a bungeed wings. It would be really difficult to get something caught in between one of the bungees. Thing is the rig keeps me so neutral that I'm not banging around on anything. I can't say the same for the vest rig I was using. And that's what led me to get a bp/w. I wouldn't worry about the bungees entangling at all. You would be much more likely to get a regulator hose or something entangled.

Dan...I wouldn't say the bungeed wing is "necessary". I know there are alot of people who don't use the bungeed wings and don't like them. I chose the OMS because of the streamlining. I can get it to the point where it isn't any wider than my torso. It is very compact on my back. When I'm diving the NC wrecks, I get into some tight spaces at times and this rig makes it very easy to get into and out of them. Ultimately...This setup has way surpassed my expectations. I chose the comfort harness because it is just that...a harness... as opposed to the padded back packs, which I feel take up more space. As far as why I didn't choose the other systems...There is NO WAY I'm going to bite on that question

People hate bungeed wings because it *might* cause a problem, and why have something that *might* cause a problem? Some people will say that it will prevent air from flowing smoothly through the wing, and also make it more difficult to dump air. I don't have many thoughts on bungeed wings, other than they look funny.

Having inflated it, the air flowed evenly throughout the wing. Having dumped air out of it, the wing deflated more completely than the vests I have used. And once under water it dumps air very easily...And on another bungee complaint...It orally inflates very easily...

As far as "might" cause a problem...SCUBA diving and every piece of equipment used in the sport "might" cause a problem...Give me a break with that "might" BS...
