Heh. I hadnt even looked at the BC. Just a quick glance... but it appears there are two buttons for the inflator? My guess is one inflates and one deflates? Geez, that was hard.

So let me get this straight, the store sells dive rite, apeks, aqualung, services mares, teaches all the way to tech diving, and yet they are afraid to let a student use that and an air2? Granted they might not be the route I would go, but I wouldnt stop diving with someone because they have one of those. I dont see any reason why a store wont do classes for them.

Do you really think that is the *real* issue here? Leisurepro is the real issue.

No, but they deserve to be ridiculed for giving such a lame and dishonest excuse.

If they want to punish or refuse instruction to people who buy from leisurepro, then they should just be upfront about it.

So because he decided to pay for gear without manufactors warrenty they cant have him as a student? What if I bought gear used? Could I not be certified there. Its a risk the diver takes when ordering without the coverage, but it is just that, the divers risk. Just because he didnt pay the outragous prices some shops charge for gear doesnt mean he shouldnt be able to give them money to be trained.

RHM, you should try to see it from the other guy's POV. Put yourself in his shoes:

You have AL & Apeks gear. Bought from this wonderful shop in Memphis, all serviced regularly by a trained tech.

Then you go somewhere else. Say, you go into an LDS in Atlanta who happens to be a Scubapro dealer & is not an authorized AL dealer. You're going to take a class from them, price is right, instructor seems sharp.

Then they tell you that you can't use your own gear until they "certify" it to be OK.

How you gonna react to that?

Rock on, Floater

Yeah, LP is the issue.

Where I have my issue is how the shop handles their issue with LP. They have chosen to take it out on the customer & will punish him for having bought from them.

Now *there's* a winning strategy for gaining customers, doncha know?

I have been in his shoes! I didn't start out with that gear. I paid my free to have my cheap Mares Axis inspected. After I was certified, I used their facilities with a Sherwood Wisdom bought elsewhere. I ended up buying the Suunto because of the hassle I had trying to get my Wisdom serviced. I bought it because they would swap it out on the spot if it crapped out. Tom had a problem with his old reg and decided to buy the Apeks there because it is a great reg. He almost bought an Atomic from them instead. I got the Apeks because I'm a Gear Slut (and you know that!). Plus I had reg envy. I also bought a Venture Wing from them, but not my RecWing.

When I took my OW, I used their student BC which was a Zeagle Ranger. My first BC was a Sherwood Luna I bought from another dive shop here and ended up hating it. Then I bought a Brigade from scubatoys, then I bought the BP/W, part of it from Dive Rite Express. And I bought another BP/W from Rap. All of that gear has been through their shop and into their pool except the Zeagle BP/W which Tom now dives.

No, it is a lot more than that. It is Leisurepro and Aqualung. Look up the Phil Ellis "I've terminated my Aqualung Dealership" thread.

I would think they would have their problem with Aqualung....LeisurePro gets them from somewhere and undersells their authorized distributors...that isn't fair to the authorized folks who can't compete price wise because of their franchise agreement.

Ive been reading it, but why are they taking this out on the customer? Alot of people, especially new, dont know about the difference. If they have a grudge agaist LP, take it to them, not the customer. If the store really hates not being able to compete with LP, then they should do what Phil did, stop using them. Its a tough choice to make, but thats the reality of the world.
