On September 6th, I celebrated my 100th dive at Ahihi cove, on Maui. As I also turned 50 last month, I'm a little amazed how quickly I got here! I received my OW certification in March of 2005, followed by my AOW in April, and Rescue in April of 2006. Aside from an unpleasant encounter with a ladder on board a dive boat which kept me out of the water for two months last fall (no pun intended), I have made it a point of diving at least once per month. I would like to thank some of the people that were instrumental in allowing me to enjoy this sport as much as I have...
First off is my "life buddy" Suzy. She gave me my OW course as a Christmas present after a trip we took to Maui in 2004 rekindled a flame of desire to explore the underwater realm that I had somehow forgotten was there. She has grown to know just how important diving has become to me and she is happy to be a dive-widow. Though she doesnt dive, we share a passion for all things aquatic.
To my dive instructor, Scott P-P. Not only a great instructor, but an enthusiastic proponent of the sport and the people in it! Props to his AI, Michael Hanna as well...always there to help and share his experience. A couple of world class drinkers those two...
To my dive buddy John Manos, aka jmdiver. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I would not have racked up as many dives in my log without having a friend that likes to dive more than I do! As I look at my log, 75% of my dives have been with him. Over the past year and a half we have developed an easy rapor in the water where we can trust each other to dive safely and have a great time. Of course, the fact that he has a truck to haul all of our gear around makes it all the better...
Others that deserve a mention are the staffs at the Valencia Sport Chalet, California Dive Company, and Scubatoys. The California Reefcheck instructors and staff. And finally, to Scubaboard and the great folks I have met through here...EmptyV, Rickster, HBdivegirl, and many others.
Cheers all!!
