Our first time to Lake Ten Killer and we got there later in the day so I figured I would take my daughter on her first night dive. It was short at only about 20 minutes with a 5 minute safety stop. We went down to 30 foot in the scuba park and got to see quite a few fish. She started getting cold, so we went up and did a 5 minute safety stop. Overall, great time and a good experience for her. Visibility was easily 15 feet or better. I will be making the trip quite a bit in the future. I'll be diving tomorrow a couple times as well.

Glad you enjoyed it. We would trade a day dive for a night dive every time. This has limited our selection of dive destinations as many only offer 1 per week and only then if enough people sign up.

So Bonaire and live aboards are creeping higher up our list of go to places as we can get our fill of nocturnal fishes.

I love night dives. Especially in the ocean. There is a whole different fauna of life that comes out after the sun goes down. And you can see the bioluminescence at night too! B.

It's good practice to have previous daylight experience at site before diving it at night.

This sounded like a conservative situation so I'm just glad a good time was had.

Glad you were able to do this with your daughter. I took my son on his first night dive a few years ago.

During summer and fall, the vast majority of my dives are done at night. As a marine biologist, it is critical to truly understand the functioning of our local marine ecosystems.

Even though it was short she will remember it. Keep taking her. I sneek in night dives after work during the week and it is a great way do unwind from work so you do ot have to only dive on weekends....

Night diving is my absolute favorite type of diving! Certain things come out at night that you don't see during the day and more so because everything is pitch black you get the full contrast of light as your introduced light isn't washed away by ambient sunlight. For that reason alone, night diving is my favorite. I'll take the dark lake or ocean anytime to day diving. I find it's much more of an adventure and you actually see a lot more too, your eyes can only focus on what your light shows you and I find you take more time in a smaller area concentrating on what's there.

I agree that it would have been ideal, but we got in late on our only night there and I kept her in constant contact with me. It was a relatively short dive considering we did a 5 minute safety stop. She got to see fish she hasn't been able to before and experience something a lot of divers, especially at her age, don't try.

It really is amazing, that profession is on my daughters list for when she grows up. My son gets rather jealous but he won't be old enough till next year. He is getting certified as soon as they will let him. :)

A night Floro dive would be good to do if can find someplace that'll rent the gear. seeing the coral heads that look plain in ordinary light with such interesting colors and the animals -- something kids and adults would enjoy.

glad she enjoyed her 1st night dive and hope she gets to do many more.

I've always told my husband that I would live to do a total night diving vacation. Unfortunately, he had a hard time converting to night schedule. We always get in at least one night dive everyday but I could do all night dives and sleep all day if diving Bonaire or Catalina if it was up to me.
Another fun dive to try is a pre-dawn dive. I did a bunch of pre-dawn snorkels on Waikiki beach when I was on a medical conference and saw a lot of life that wasn't present during the day. What appears to be a boring, sandy flat strip becomes a vibrant area full of interesting critters in the predawn hours.
