Hi there , im in canada and would like to find out how my boyfreind could take a dive with squid in B.C . He has no dive training but is good at everything :) and I want to buy him a dive with squid as a present . Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated .
thank you :coffee:

I assume by squid you mean Humboldt squid in the Sea Of Cortez. That is an advanced dive and should not be undertaken until your boyfriend has 50 - 100 dives and is trained for deep diving. Why not give him a certification class as a present, that will start him on a journey with many fabulous experiences in store; including the squid dive when he is ready. (and assuming he still wants to. Those things have been known to get pretty aggressive with divers). Even better, do what rakkis said and get certified together. It gives you a great excuse to get out of Canada in the Winter.

Howdy and Welcome to SB.com!

It's a real sport, not a hobby - can be dangerous if you don't do it right. If he just wants to dive with the local squid while they're running there, snorkel training would be easier and cheaper, but there are safety concerns there nonetheless....

I asked him if he would rather swim with sharks or squids and he said sharks because the squid are more dangerous and unknown , so now I need to figure out where he can go swim or be in a cage or something to see sharks. thank you for the good ideas though :):blinking:

Squid? Perhaps he should be diving with you. You have GOT to be better looking than squid!
If he insists, check out the other "similar threads" below.
Good luck!

Get certified together then decide where to go. Carribean Reef squid are really cool, and I don't think they are very dangerous.

Do not look for danger you just might find it. Dive with sharks but do it safely.
