flounderboy:
I have a e-mail into Olympus asking for a rough guess on repairs
and now have been thinking of getting another camera to have as a backup.
what does the 4040 have that the 4000 doesn't ????

mark s

A few differences:
4040 has remote control ability and the 4000 does not
4040 has a 1.8 lens and the 4000 is 2.8
4040 has sound and the 4000 does not
4040 does not have super macro and the 4000 does
4040 has a LED window on top of the camera and the 4000 does not

I'm sure there are some other differences.

Thank you Gilligan

I didnt know about the top led
and i dont even know where my remote is
(I only used it for underwater)

The biggest difference for me was
C4000 = 179.95
C4040 = 500.00

I think for 300.00 I can live with the down falls
plus there were 6 4040 cameras for sale on e-bay
4 pages of 4000

so unless olympus gives me a price under 200.00
I will be proudly diving with my reco C4000

When you get a few extra bucks you may want to buy a second refurb 4000. They are no longer in production but the market is flooded with them. Eventually they will fade away like all other electronic gadgets. Having a backup one will assure you of continued use of your housing. I have two of them for that reason.

Yeah, sorry to hear of the demise of a beginning camera, but Oly probably won't be much help..
Check e-bay as Oly is selling, was anyway last month, like crazy...
They don't have them for their customers, but are flooding the market on e-bay, go figure... I got a 4040 for $275, 2nd time around.. one previously went for $350 or so...
you never know... but luckily your housing isn't a $1500 one so it's a little less painful if you decide to upgrade to the 5060 or so...
Good luck, it's a tough way to "Force" an upgade.. heheh.. but you'll probably be better off for it...

Oh yes I miss my 4040 :06:
and I plan on getting the c 4000 because of price 179.99

You wouldnt happen to know where to get the little o-rings
for the PT 010 do you ????

Case is over 2 years old and would like to change out

O-rings...

In an effort to reduce the price of $15 for one O-ring (joking), I searched for O-ring mfg and found a lot... locally (yellow pages) and on the web.
What I did is just send them the o-rings and told them what they were for, they matched them and gave me a price...
I was paying $15 for 3-4 O-rings and got something like 20 each, plus a few other types at 20 each for apx $25... you can get less, but the point is it's like .10cents or .90cents for the big ones.. and I'm told they are the same.

I've used them for about 1 year now and they look, feel, and work just fine...
so go figure...

I also heard it's a bit tricky to replace the little ones on the housing, but if you can, you can...
Hope that helps..

Here's an example of one online web site for O-rings.
http://www.air-oil.com/oringsonlinefset.htm

Just do a search.. but send them the old ones for them to check for materails and sizes..

well thats good to hear
i have a o-ring warehouse a mile from my house
they sell parker and is mainly mail order
I just didnt want to find out the hard way not to use them

Yeah, well (heheh...) I'm not telling you that you should use them, just relaying my experience with them...

it's important that they know what it's being used for and they can measure the size etc.... using the correct materials...
use at your own risk... CYA me? eh??? lol
