Stash the ring, print your proposal out on wetnotes and stash it in your wetsuit, act like you find the wetnotes during the dive and hand it to her after you open it (unless you know ASL).

Or get someone else on the dive to drop it in front of you.

You might wanna tie off the ring to a clip...

Maybe even tie the ring in the wetnotes.

Don't get down on one knee if you're over the reef.

Good luck, BTW.

I saw this once while diving in Thailand.

The guy, with everyone on the boat knowing about it, except of course for his belle, put a plastic rose in his bcd and took it out on one of the most awesome divesites of the Andaman Sea, at Anemone Reef.

He also had an underwater slate with a huge "will you marry me?" written on it.

Once on the boat there was a huge diamond, a champagne bottle and an orchid bunch (difficult to find roses in South East Asia :) )

Her answer, as I recall, was a big grin underwater and a YES as soon as they were on the surface.

Go for it, it will be a big surprise, provided of course she's a diver as well!

get an old conch shell or bivalve and place a cheap ring (certainly not an expensive diamond) in it and when you dive "find " the shell.

on the surface open it ( certainly with fanfare and an audience) , and voila

a diamond in the clam!!!

i would clue the people who run the dive in so they could assist in placing the prop on the bottom and the fanfare

btw
make sure she'll say yes

good luck, if you don't do your proposal right, she'll never let you forget it. women have incredibly long memories when they feel wronged
(i'm married for 17 yrs)

A friend of mine proposed on one of our dives to his girlfriend, now wife. The dive was video taped, and of course they taped the proposal. He had a cheap actually fake diamond that he put in his BC pocket. Ahead of time he wrote on his slate "Will you Marry Me?" When we were in an area of sandy bottom he signaled her to sit on the bottom while he adjusted his BC, the took out his slate acting as if needing to communicate what was wrong with his BC. He handed her the slate to read and give him an answer, she was so shocked she kept nodding her head and trying to reach him but kept floating along. Finnally he got her to write YES on the slate. He then put the fake ring on her, they took regs out and kissed, it was really cool. Back on the boat he told her the real ring was safe at home.

Sounds as if you're going to have a very memorable trip. MY suggestion would be to leave the ring somewhere safe, I wouldn't want to be on that search team if it was lost underwater. There are some really good suggestions here...best of luck to you two.

No matter how you do it make certain that you maintain correct trim.

Does this mean stay streamlined with no danglies ??

Mushroom, best of luck no matter how it works................

I have to agree, don't use the real ring.

Last year, I was on a boat with a bunch of people I work with. Everyone went down and sat on the bottom. My friend and his g/f at the time were the last, with me right in front of them. When we got to the bottom, 2 others pulled apart a big banner that said "Happy Birthday". 2l of us had video cameras and caught everything. It was really cool for everyone, as I'm sure this will be too.

Good luck.

Underwater proposals can be cool and all, but if you think your girlfriend may get really emotional...I wouldn't do it underwater. I definitely don't want to burst your bubble, but as a female, I would not want to be crying and sobbing at 100 ft below. A sunset beach proposal on one knee would rock, but that's just my 2 cents and it's your show! GOOD LUCK
