WVDiver:I was there maybe 2 months ago. The lake never really changes alot. The low to mid 80's is a common temp. for this time of year and the vis 10' - 15' is about the norm.
Have you ever been there? Are you from the area?

nanadiver:We usually stay in Davis. Used to be a Best Western. The restaurant there is good, too. It's about 20 minutes from the lake. As far as camping, you cannot camp at the lake. It's on state property. There is a campground near the lake, but they are onlly open between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The only fish I have seen there are channel cats. I have been there in early May and early November. Each time the water was between 63 and 66 degrees. I was told that the power plant was only using one turbine and the water was cooler than if the plant was running at full capacity. Also, there is no air available at Mt. Storm. You need plenty of tanks or a portable compressor designed for air fills. Visibility drops quickly as you descend because of the constant turnover of the water keeping silt moving in the water. Keep a flashlight handy. It is a good dive and definitely a great experience. Go online and get a map of the lake. It isn't a good map, but it will tell you where there are some things to see and where the platforms are. Try a google search for Mt. Storm Lake in WV. Good luck and have fun!!
