MSD= Worthless, ego-massaging expenditure. One dollar for card and fourty dollars for backpack.

JD: ANY c-card which you can obtain just by writing a check for it is a worthless, ego-massage. Although those who have been sucked in to spending their hard-earned for one of these worthless cards might disagree. Show one in front of some experienced divers in a dive shop and listen to the 'yuk-yuks'. I prefer 'fourty'. Looks more European.

Is chiming in with an opinion no one asked for also European?

There's more to it than simply stroking a check. You have to have earned it by reaching certain levels. It's a recognition of effort, one I'm personally proud of. None of the dive shops I frequent would "yuk-yuk" the card, nor would any of the divers I dive with...but then again, we're just regular old recreational divers, not the uber leet guys covered in equipment going down to 180 on trimix....

Have you been scorned and shunned by a particular organization and group? Perhaps your paradigm is coloured?

I think you need to check the tude at the door. If you don't like MSD (which is funny that you had to ask what it was, a smart man would have known the acronym of something he seems to have such a strong opinion against) then there is no need to comment.

You go get your "experience" friend. Leave the learning it to those that want to know, and again, check the tude, it isn't warranted or needed.

That's funny, because almost all of the experienced divers in the LDS I frequent are MSDs. And every one of the instructors is - -the LDS requires it. They won't train anybody for divemaster until they've EARNED their MSD.

Sure, I got my MSD by just writing a check.

For my OW certification.

For my Underwater Photographer Certification.

For my Deep Diving Certification.

For my Peak Performance Bouyancy Certification.

For my Underwater Navigation Certification.

For my Night Diving Certification.

For my Nitrox Certification.

For my Digital Underwater Photographer Certification.

For my Advanced Open Water Diver Certification.

For my Rescue Diver Certification.

For the 115 boat and shore dives I've made.

Then the last one for my Master Scuba Diver Certification.

Yup, I just wrote a check. :shakehead

Ha ha ha! What a tool....the "yuk-yuk" never happens in person, only on Scuba Board. Divers that are actually experienced don't care what someone else has for dive certifications. The MSD is a great step for advancing your dive education and experience. All certifications are learners permit's to acquire more experience.
