If anyone wants to see how clogged the river is come to our river clean up there are usually around 100 divers and about 300 walkers see the thread here http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=184227

they did not hold it last year because of the drought but the river is running pretty good now so it should be a good year

Hey, Parrotheaddiver
I was at Aquarena last month and we were discussing the effectiveness of clearing hydrilla from Spring Lake. The use of volunteers and manual removal (pulling it by hand) has almost completely eradicated the weed from the lake. In fact, the lake manager and other staff mentioned that the city of San Marcos has requested that Aquarena expand the year-round volunteer efforts to the upper parts of the river, working downriver as it becomes more effective. Hey, I'll volunteer for some of that duty. I can't make the April 14 event, but I hope to get a group up later in the summer just for that purpose. Hope to see you there!

Amen to that. There's lots of clean-ups and projects going on that I would like to be involved with, but I don't hear about it 'till y'all get back.

Lake mowers are quite common and an effective means of weed control on lakes/reservoirs. Lake Bastrop is a fine example, very clogged with hydrilla at times. Texas Wild Rice, which is an endangered species, grows only in the upper reaches of the San Marcos River. It's arch enemy are humans.
