There are a lot of good dive sites on the sonoma coast as well which is a couple of hours north of s.f,. I Would defintelty go with at least a 7 mill suit or thicker if diving wet. just my 2-cents check out thenorthcoastdivers.org great dive club and place to find dive buddies they do club dives all up and down the north coast from monteray to mendo.
