Moving to New Orleans

So I may be moving to New Orleans with work.

I was in Texas this past summer but have no experience with this area.

Where do people dive?

Long charters out into the gulf, dirty dives in Lake Pontchartrain, or drive east to the AL/FL coast or springs.

Like Mat said, good diving east. Gulf Shores to PC Beach and plenty of cool clear springs in Florida. Not too bad of a drive, I make it a lot. Mark

You can take trips with me to Florida. There is no other place to dive here.

Lots of great diving on the oil rigs south of New Orleans, but it is like a expedition to get to them. I suggest you contact one of the local diving clubs, Aqua Aces, Hell Divers or Sea Tigers. Their meeting are usually open to anyone.

Thanks for the info guys. This is about what I expected but good to know.

How long are the trips out to the rigs?

Its about a 3 hour drive to some of the closer stuff in Florida correct?

I would say at least a 2 1/2 hour drive and then a minimum 1 1/2 hour boat ride to the Blue water at the rigs. I use to work on the rigs and most of my boat rides out were at least 3 hours with the longest being 12 hours in a slower crew boat.

I would take the three hour drive to FL. and an average boat ride of 45min.
