I'm switching to doubles for the first time and need some advice on how much lead to put on.

When I would use my SeaQuest Balance, Aluminum 80 and 3mil in salt water I was wearing 12 lbs. (I'm about 165 lbs.)

So now, diving in a 7mm semidry, with OMS wing and SS backplate, double E8-130s in fresh water, what type of lead should I be looking at?

There are more experienced doubles divers on the board, but I use steel 95's with a SS plate and no weight when diving dry. I weigh 180.

I'm curious, is your wing a double bladder wing? I ask this because of safety. Diving wet with doubles is generally not recommended unless you have a double bladder wing. The drysuit acts as your redundant bouyancy source.

the best and only way to figure out the lead issue is take your setup to the beach and try it out. keep adding weight until you sink. with an hp120 and a 7mil wetsuit i wear about 10 lbs of weight, 185 lbs

You may not need any weight. You just have to go and try it in shallow water at first.

My weighting is more or less the same as you in the salt water config - 12 lbs and I weigh 165. In my double E7-120s (full), SS BP/Wing, 2mm compressed neoprene drysuit with cold water undergarments, I can get down without weights, but I need to add about 6 lbs (or more, depending on how much gas I plan to draw down) to stay down due to buoyancy shift.

Ok thanks for the replies. I do have a double bladder OMS.

If you need any weight in that config, you can call me a monkey's uncle....

In fresh water, dry with 400g thinsulate and a SS backplate, I'm WAY overweighted in that configuration.

You also need to seriously reconsider diving double 130s in a 7mm wetsuit. That's just asking for troubles.

Dude, you should hopefully NOT need any weight! Those tanks are super heavy.

I weigh 170. With a Clx 450, 300g polartec, Aluminum plate and E-8 130's. I don't need any additional weight.

Also, I switched to the Aluminum plate because I was head down (top heavy) with a SS BP

In Salt water with an Aluminum 80 and 3 mil wetsuit I use 11 lbs. (we're pretty close)

Diving singles I use the same amount of weight with my drysuit as I did with a 7 mil, so wet or dry shouldn't make a difference.

Hope this helps, Rick
