Hello,

There is a strong possibility that my wife will be receiving a promotion that will require us to move to Denver. We are in Phoenix right now, so my diving options are pretty limited as it is.

I have been researching quite a bit and other than the lakes being at high altitude, what are conditions like? I have read about a couple that have 5-10 ft. vis, is this pretty common for the high lakes? (I usually get from 5 to 30 feet here)

I dive dry, so temps aren't a great concern. I may have to add a layer of thermals! :D

I normally dive three or so days a week here at our Lake Pleasant and take trips to San Diego and Mexico to wreck dive.

Are any of you weekday divers in CO?

Are there local meet and greets monthly?

I'm a little bummed at the prospect of the move but am trying to find a glimmer of hope that I will still be able to keep from getting dried out.

Sorry to ramble......lots-o-thoughts right now.

Thanks

So helpful thanks.....:D

Still no glimmer.

dive clubs ??? Have you bothered to look up at the Dive Clubs sub-forum?

mid-week diving??? Yes, in Colorado there are lakes and reservoirs, but they freeze over in winter and are not diveable most of the year. Denver area has Chatfield and Aurora reservoirs during summer.

year-round diving???? The primary dive destination for everyone in this forum for year round diving is Santa Rosa, New Mexico Blue Hole and Perch Lake. I have videos of our RMO group here:

I don't even live in Colorado anymore, I live in Albuquerque New Mexico now. I was just trying to give you some direction for answers to your questions. Take it or leave it.

I do appreciate your posts....I was also trying to introduce myself, and to get the standard scubaboard response of "search the forum" is a bit of a turnoff.

Obviously I have read through quite a lot of the thread for RMO and did find a lot of info. None of it giving any kind of good vibe for local diving near Denver.

A seven hour drive to the favorite local spot sucks....I feel bad that you guys...and ladies...have to go through that just to do what we all love.

As it is now, we aren't for certain moving there......I personally hope to stay here, but I thought it might be nice to try and get to know some of the local divers there in the event that I do have to go.

Somehow the tone of this thread started off on the wrong foot......lack of good local dive sites is my guess....:D

Regardless.....I hope that I can meet lots of new dive buddies if I make the move.

Cheers.

Gdaaym8z,
Sorry you've been given such a view of the local dive sites. But the truth is the truth and I suspect that no one wanted to sugar coat the conditions. On the other hand I enjoy the challenge of diving here even with the poor vis. The good news is that it is close enough for a dive after work or just a morning on weekends. The practice is good and the exercise is good. Next week the water will get warmer so I look forward to seeing you some weekday at Chatfield for a dive.

Thanks Frank. I wasn't hoping for sugar coating. I actually enjoy cold, dark, deep water. Not sure what's wrong with me..ha.

It sounds like the move is going to happen. I will be staying here in AZ for a few months to finish up my Divecon program. I don't want to change shops/instructors halfway through.

Hope to meet and dive with the RMO's soon.

Diving HERE (CO) in a word kinda sucks. High Mountain lakes can be decent in the summer, but don't expect to see much life outside of crawdads (IF THAT), and the occasional fish.

Diving in NM is better. There are a number of posts on conditions at the Local NM spots which include Blue Hole, Perch Lake, and Rock Lake.

I generally do one or two trips a year, and then dive local a bit in the summer, and at Blue Hole~Perch in the winter.

Hardly a divers paradise, but we get by, and the skiing is quite world class! :D

On the plus side, there are alot of divers and alot of dive shops in the Denver area.

I was suprised to see so many shops in Denver. Kind of like Phoenix.

This is going to be a huge adjustment for me. I have been diving three days a week.

Are there casinos in Denver at least? LOL
