Hello,
I currently live and Indiana and my wife and I were looking to move to Florida. After sending out a couple resumes a company made a job offer in the DC area that I cannot refuse. We were really looking forward to the Florida diving. But we were wondering is there much local diving in the DC area? And yes I understand if there is any it will not be anything like the Florida diving.
Thanks in advance.

I spend a good bit of time there. Lake Millbrook is the local quarry, ocean city is not too far away. Morehead a few hours, Chesapeake bay is there and the U-1105 is in the Potomac @ Piney point. I can hook you up with a good dive shop or 3, each tends to cater to a different style of diving, PM me if you want more specific info. There are other places not too far away, Rawlings for example.
I have also done some Urban stream dives and found them to be very enlightening and fun. Just wade the stream until you get to a pool then dive the pool! I will be there this fall for another year in the big city and can't wait to dive some old stomping grounds. Holler when you need a dive bud in DC, I can probably hook you up with one or two who will dive anywhere anytime.

Here is some more info from my LDS, Brass Anchor Scuba in Frederick, MD.

The short version is you pretty much have local quarries, boat dives out of Ocean City, aquarium dives at Baltimore Aquarium, or travel to other states.

I tend to use the local quarries for training dives and drive to NC or fly elsewhere for fun.

Also, if you are unfamiliar with the DC area, consider commute time, not just distance, when you choose where to live. Travel here is measured in how long it takes you to get somewhere, which can vary greatly depending on the time of day. Welcome to the area.
