Most of the diving is done out of Morehead City or Wilmington areas. Wilmington being a little closer to Raleigh, just a little over a 2 hr drive. If nothing else, bring hubby and come join us at the quarry. Not a lot to see but a chance to get wet and meet a lot of the local divers.

well, i don't know of any positions for a research scientist, but you're moving to an area that should have a lot of them if anyone does!

the quarry we (in central & eastern nc) use most is fantasy lake, slightly north of raleigh in rolesville. come any saturday!

Thank you for the invite--I will come to the quarry and check it out. I have only dove once in fresh water in a lake in NH--it was amazing-a shipwreck from 1899 that was still in incredible shape. It is good to know there is some closer diving to Chapel Hill so I don't go into complete withdrawal!

Well, we can't give you a 1899 shipwreck in Fantasy Lake. Best we can offer is a glass bottom boat and an old CAT (city) bus. However, it's a place to get wet, cook out, and hang out with local divers.

For offshore diving, you have three options in NC...Wilmington, Morehead City, and Hatteras. From Chapel Hill, Wilmington is about 2 1/2-3 hours down the interstate, Morehead City will be 4 hours, and Hatteras will be 5 or so hours (depending on where you go on the islands).

Everything south of Diamond Shoals (Hatteras) lies in the Gulf Stream...which gives you the warm, blue water. North of the shoals puts you in the Labrador Current and water conditions like what you've been in up north.

BTW, feel free to not jump on the UNC or Duke bandwagons when you move down here. ;)

Oh, you don't have to worry about me jumping on any band wagons--go Wolfpack :D ?

We actually almost wound up at NC State instead of UNC. I will let you know when I am down for some quarry diving. The house hunting begins this weekend!

cute, bob, harassing people before they're even here.:shakehead::no
:D

Might as well learn to take the heat joining this bunch. :)
Anyone headed to FL this weekend?
