Hi, folks,

I have a new drysuit, and want to spend a couple of tanks getting used to it with an easy shore dive this Sunday on Cape Ann.

I'll want to do some drysuit drills (tuck-and-roll, etc) to back up my recent pool-class in the subject. If yoiu were looking for a couple of "practice" dives yourself, let's do it together!

I'm thinking... meet at the Burger King around 10:00 am, and pick whatever shore-dive has better conditions based on the weather.

Any takers?

Sorrry, this is a work weekend for me.

Take a look at the forecast. Might not be the best weekend to try out a drysuit :(

SUN
NE WINDS 5 TO 10 KT. SEAS 9 TO 14 FT. A CHANCE OF RAIN WITH
AREAS OF DRIZZLE...THEN A CHANCE OF RAIN. AREAS OF FOG. VSBY 1 TO
3 NM UNTIL LATE AFTERNOON.

John,, RELAX! you must be up to,,what 300 dives this year? you're going to get mouldy!

Yeah, the weather... it's ugly out there now, but Sunday is a long way off.

If it's not raining, and if the high seas are avoidable based on which side of Cape Ann one dives... might be OK. An NE wind... maybe dive Magnolia Rocks? The entry/exit is pretty tough there, but hell... that's New England shore diving! I'd like to see my California dive buddies dive that spot.

Funny you make that comparison...my earliest experiences as a new diver were shore diving in S. Cal, where the surf can give you a serious pounding. I think I saw more people lose gear there than here, but the danger was different -- it tended to be more of the washing machine effect, where you were pretty safe if you kept your wits about you, your reg in, and weren't afraid to crawl. One of the skills that you probably need more in California than here though is to get into the water without your fins on and there's also a bigger need to time the entry right when surf is 6-8'.

Here, you don't get tossed around as much (head over heels), but I think it's actually more dangerous because of all the rocks. Fortunately, I've never seen anyone here get hurt, but I think the potential is higher. The skill here that seems to be more important than timing is the ability to pick a good entry/exit and predict how that'll change in an hour.

Hi, since the weather is going to be nasty my advice is why not you go down to the hattaways pond in The Cape, is a great place to practice skills, and won't be as bad as the Ocean. Think about it
