Has anyone been out to dive near the Beaufort/Morehead area on some of the closer dives? Has visibility been erased by all the water from shore?

We are going to head out to Radio Island and probably dive on a closer wreck like the Indra if the vis is more than 2' this weekend.

Thanks,
Wade

I dove there yesterday (8-18)
Water was 1-2'. Not bad at all
weather was partly cloudy
Vis.....well....vis has been hard to monitor since the storms. The blue water shifts every day. You never know where it will be. On the first dive we went to the Box Wreck hoping for the blue water. Nope, dark....20' vis and a cold thermocline. The next wreck was Hardees 2 miles away and there was the blue water! No thermocline, vis 50' and a slight current. Still not the greatest vis but better than the first dive. One wreck had 70' one day and 30' the next. I sure hope that things settle down soon. It's driving the dive shops crazy.

Thanks for the reply! I am thinking we are just going to waste a tank of air on radio island fighting the current and low vis. There is a ton to see there at least, and its certainly a bit cheaper than going further out.

Thanks again.

We are going out with Discovery Diving out of Beaufort Saturday the 28th (1/2 day PM dive). Not sure where they will take us, in shore I do know. Anyone been out lately, in-shore, that has any comments about conditions?

I am also contemplating driving to NC this labor day weekend. Are there many dive shops around Wilmington?

look like labor day might not be a good weekend sadly.

Althrough Frances is extected to track north of these areas tropical strom conditions can be extected. On Wednesday, Frances is forecast to continue on a WNW track into the Turks and Caicos Islands. By Friday, the violent storm should be battering the Bahamas and raising apprehensions significantly all along the southeast coast of the U. S.

Figures...I'm suppose to dive Saturday with discovery. I'm crossing my fingers.

Well, if you can believe the weather channel ;) conditions don't look too bad through the weekend. :jump013:

Mr Bubble, I am diving with Discovery too, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, maybe I will see you there, it is always nice to meet scubaboard members.

Just got off the phone with Olympus. They've cancelled for this weekend. Never been blown out 2 days in advance before. The forecast is for 8-11 ft seas inshore. blah
