Hi Divers,

I will be in Rio Grande (Wyndam Rio Mar hotel) Puerto Rico for a short trip with my wife, a non-diver, and I would like to do an early morning dive while she sleeps in if possible on the morning of Tue. Jan 18 or Wed. Jan. 19, 2011.

I know it may be a long shot but please let me know if you have any dive shop recommendations or plans for the same.

Also any easy snorkeling where I might take my wife would be nice to know about too.

Thanks,
John

There are two dive shops out of Fajardo; Sea Ventures and Casa Del Mar. Both have web sites.

Casa Del Mar: Scuba Puerto Rico | Scuba Diving Puerto Rico | Dive Puerto Rico | Casa del Mar Dive Center
Sea Ventures: Scuba Diving Puerto Rico's Caribbean with Sea Ventures Dive Centers- Fajardo, & Humacao, Puerto Rico

I was planning to dive with Sea Ventures over Christmas but was cancelled due to poor conditions. Both shops have a number of recommendations on this board, Casa Del Mar seems to be the favorite. Casa Del Mar also seems a little more expensive and is run out of the Conquistador Hotel in Fajardo, which is a resort hotel like the Rio Mar. I was over there for the casino in December and saw their boats, they are really nice. The Rio Mar had a dive/water sports operation that appears to be closed (locked up and empty during Christmas).

I was staying in Rio Grande also. Fajardo is a 30 to 45 minute drive. Sea Ventures also runs dives out of Humacao (Palmas Del Mar), which is another 30 minutes south from Fajardo (30 minutes further from your hotel). Supposedly better but more advanced diving sites. Sorry I have no actual experience to share, weather intervened.
