I have had vey few ads pop up over the years -the ads seem to have been prolific in the last few months

How do they pay their hosting bills and renew their software?
 
With normal advertising like everyone else🙄
So you are OK with advertising. It is just the popups that irritate you? Got it.
I don't see them. so I'm asking all these questions.
I am both a SB supporter and use AdBlock on my desktop, so don't see any ads on desktop or mobile.
 
At the end of the day, this is valid user feedback. The ad experience is quite jarring, and on mobile especially so. Site analytics will enable the board to determine if the "juice is worth the squeeze" or if there is a drop in engagement or user growth (etc) due to the UX.

From my perspective as a user, the UX aligns more with "clickbait" and Made for Advertising sites.
