I don't know much about the DiveRite stuff... it just never has interested me. But I have a lot of stuff from most of the other quality brands. I guess my all round favorites are my older style Halcyon Pioneers... nice and small wings that have been all over the world and are still as good as the day I bought 'em.

But my Oxy Mach V seems to be way ahead of the rest of the pack. As far as performance is concerned there simply isn't anything that comes close. It has a funky small profile that is out-of-this-world streamlined. Bummer that it doesn't pack a little smaller but that's the trade off for the toughest, strongest, most bullet-proof wing on the market.

I dive an Agir wing and it is great, too. Horseshoe bladder, tough outer shell/inner bladder design. Very DIR.

I also have a DSS. It doesn't see much action but it seems OK, too.

Hello everyone...this seems to be a popular topic on here! I'm a brand new diver...just got my OW ticket last weekend. The BC that I almost bought had a poor fit in the water and I'm working w/ my LDS on other options. My instructor is a tech diver and was diving a BP/W setup and I started considering it. I've pretty much made up my mind that this is the system I want to go with, but I have a few questions.
Are different brands interchangeable? I'm looking at a Dive Rite RecWing that was used once in freshwater only....it's a 51 lb bladder and supposedly can be used w/ either a big single or a set of medium twins. Is that too much bladder for a single?
If I buy this bladder, do I HAVE to buy the dive rite Backplate?

Any other tips of do's and dont's when it comes to putting a rig together?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Get a wing for the purpose. No one wing works great for all purposes (singles/doubles). I recently purchased the Dive Rite SS BP and venture wing. This is great for singles (I dive Steel 100s). No extra weight need for my 7mm in fresh or 4/3 in salt. I can move to the classic for doubles.

I bought Dive Rite as it was the only brand I could buy locally and I wanted help in setting up my BP/W. I first bought the RecWing with a size S Tranpac on ebay for $125 and the the Transpac was too short. Then I dove the RecWing with the BP/W and then I bought a Venture wing for singles and just bought an Oxycheq double bladder wing for doubles. It never ends. :D

Not looking to sell anything but I'll watch the classifieds for ya. There are some good deals offered by some of the trusted regular members on occasion. You just need to know what to look for.

Apology delivered. On with the show!

I am also shopping for a BP/W. I like the Dive Rite stuff. I am a short fat diver, (5'9" about 290#) Currently I use single a steel 95, shell dry suit, with 24 lbs of lead and a Al 40cu/ft stage bottle. I understand what everyone says about using a single wing, like the DR venture, which is what I planned to do, but the dive shop I'm working with recomennds something like a rec wing..... for me. Is a single wing (30lb lift) ok for my current set up. I was planning on working my way to doubles and having 2 wings..... Also, i am kinda torn between the venture wing, and the oxy cheq single wing.... any comments of these 2?

If you're diving dry with a steel 95, you're going to want 36-40# of lift. Those options are out there. It's no secret that I am not a big fan of the Dive-Rite wings (I have othere DR gear and one of their wings) but there are lots of good options out there including Halcyon, Golem, DSS, Oxycheq, Agir, and others.

Don't get suckered into only buying what your LDS has on the shelf.
