DavidPT40:Since we are all weighing in on this, I'm going to add my opinion. Feeding animals is risky, but its fun. However, if I lost my thumb to a moray, I definately would not have a toe grafted on in place! Its scary looking.
I was thinking the same thing, but then remembered how incredibly important opposable thumbs are - without them, your hand is all but useless. This operation was anything but cosmetic. Even though the guy "only" lost his left thumb (assuming he's not a southpaw), the utility of having a functioning hand is one of those situations that totally outweigh the disturbing appearance of the toe graft.
