Vis was even better today at Pt Lobos; an easy 100+

Rainman--Thanks for the report--how far in advance are you booking your reservations to dive Lobos? Todd

Lobos reservations need to be made two months ahead. That's the earliest you can
make them (one second after midnight the morning of Aug 20 to dive on Oct 20). They
are generally gone within a week or two of opening, on occasion five seconds after
midnight if there's a big club dive. You can check availability at
http://pt-lobos.parks.state.ca.us/DiveCalendar.htm

Also, there's always the chance of a cancellation -- The people behind us in line to get
in this morning had picked up a cancellation on Tuesday.

The big winds didn't happen.

The Bay was nice today. Saw my 15th octopus at Aquarium Reef. Funny I have only seen 2 sharks out of all my dives.

Todd,

Typically two months in advance. You can also call at any time and see if there are any openings...I'll just ask Debbie really nice like, "Are there any openings between now and two months from now?"

:D

Thanks for the additional info on Lobos--another quick question--is it typical for dive shops to secure Lobos reservations for "fun" dives, or are most divers getting reservations and planning dives there entirely on their own? Many thanks, Todd

There are one or two shops that do get Lobos reservations for shop dives, but generally
not. And the Beach Hopper gets reservations for their boat dives.

But generally, divers get their own, like I did for today. Gotta go dive Lobos. 80' vis yesterday,
I switched to wide-angle overnight, so it will no doubt be braille diving today. ;-)

Sanctuary also has a Pt. Lobos Charter I think :confused2 because I saw them pulling up into the Cove before, but I think you have to call them to see when is the next available Pt. Lobos charter if there is any. I don't know why Cypress Sea doesn't do Pt. Lobos charter anymore, maybe Mr.Tribolet might know something about it. Beach hopper 2 has one coming this weekend, but I got my spot and its already full.

So how was it? Please post some of the wide angle pictures for those who could not dive today to enjoy.

Chuck shoots film :11: , so there's developing and scanning to be done, although inclement weather seems to speedup the scnaning process...

Here's one of my own from the day to tide you over. This was an extremely cooperative cabezon who let me get up so that he was almost touching the dome port. The vis doesn't look awesome from the picture... until I tell you that it was taken in 20FSW inside the cove.
