is it worth going?!?!? we'll be coming from Sacramento, don't want to be blown out!
willing to deal with surge , etc. (it's fun) just not sure if we will even be able to get in and saturday is the only day we can make it! what do you think??!!? were is the most protected site? (where would you dive???)
help!
thanks!

Winds look big on the offshore forecast for Saturday. And the swell model has a short interval. Sunday is looking a lot better than Saturday, but personally, I'd go either day. Your idea of good conditions and flat water probably differ from mine though.

Some protected spots are Stillwater Cove (Pebble Beach) and probably Lover's Cove in Monterey. The vis will probably be better on the Carmel side though.

Then there's always Breakwater.

Come to the meet and greet on SUnday at Breakwater. That way, even if we do get blown out, we can still all socialize! :D

Visibility was 80+ at Point Lobos today. Got some video of what we think is a Humboldt Squid.

Thanks for sharing this fascinating video. Regarding 80+ visibility, you are lucky--I just received a text message that vis was poor (<5') on a night dive this evening at Hopkins deep reef.

that's a freakin cool video.

CALAMARI...... Get about 6 more of those things and could have an appetizer.....

I need to get to Pt. Lobos... I aint been there in 2 years and forgot what it was like....

DAMN IM JEALOUS...

Conditions were actually pretty good. Vis was terrible, but I still had fun. The wave and swell predictions were pretty far off.

Vis was even better today at Pt Lobos; an easy 100+. We could see the kelp on the surface from 80-100'. I spent probably 1/4 of the dive upside down just marveling at the water clarity.

I should clarify that I was at Breakwater. :) Vis is typically not great there. especially within 100 feet of the Open Water classes. :) It was about 10-15 at best along the wall and about 2-3 nearer the classes.
