Anyone interested in getting a dive or two in? I've got a bunch of new gear I need to try out.

I was thinking shore diving in Monterey, but could be easily persuaded to get on a boat or head north a bit (though it would be a shame to go north and not be able to free dive for some abs).

If anyone's interested, post or shoot me a PM.

I may go out either Saturday or Sunday.
I'm thinking of doing a kayak dive or maybe a shore dive?
It's gonna be a super low tide so areas where there's a lot of slippery rocks wouldn't be good (like Fisk Mill south).
That's why I'm thinking Gerstle with a kayak and get out to the far wash rock with all the cool caves with the scallops or maybe even Anchor bay and get out to Fish Rocks.
Whatever it is, I really really need to get out.

Then, don't forget about the campout coming up August 11-14 at Ocean Cove!

Scallops would be awesome - never dove for those. I don't have a 'yak, though. Is it swimmable?

You mean you finally succeeded in your mission of leaving your gear in the back of somebody's truck? ;) Or were you wondering why your dive buddies were chasin you down the street, holding familiar looking gear in their hands? :11:

If you end up in Monterey, my other half is going to be looking for someone to dive with in the afternoon. I am planning on diving in a freedive halibut competition saturday morning at Del Monte and she is watching my kids....so now she says she wants to dive in the PM while I watch the kidlets. I would imagine she will want to dive BW or otter cove?

I guess it could be swimmable but a very long way out there. You'd be spent by the time you made the surface swim.
It looks like Saturday for me at Gerstle. I just contacted my other buds and It's on.
They rent kayaks at wind toys in Santa Rosa, but you'd have to get it the day before though so logistically it would be a pain in the butt.
I don't know where you're driving from, but check around your local area, maybe there's somewhere around there that could set you up.
Kayaks are REALLY handy and a very inexpensive and covenient way to get out to some of the better diving without the full expense and commitment of a boat.
I think anyone who regularly dives north of S.F. should strongly consider getting a kayak.

I think I've now got two full sets of gear, which is good, since I manage to leave something behind almost every time I go diving. In my defense, I knew I was leaving something behind, I just couldn't figure out what it was or where I left it or muster the motivation required to figure those things out.

At least I manage to hang on to a full set of gear until the diving is done, unlike SOME people (*cough* *dlndavid* *cough*) who don't bring their gear to start with.

Hey, I was running late, I was already in screw up mode. Good thing for dyi weights though. ;)

ZKY,

Where do you find the scallops at Gerstle?? I have been diving there for 2 years and havent seen any...man I would love to find some up there!!! We will be camping in Stillwater over the Aug 22-24th weekend.

DOH,

Do you have a Sports Chalet nearby? They have a great selection of rental kayaks for $20 each and they will apply it towards a purchase as well. I have been eyeing a replacement for my scupper pro...I want to get one with a tank well.

I've been dying to get a kayak, but haven't talked the girlfriend (fiance, really, but I can't use the word outside of parentheses without feeling weird) into buying one yet. I'd need to buy some kind of rack too in order to haul it up there. These are all purchases that are likely to get me in trouble.

At this point, I'm thinking of just heading out on a 2 tank morning boat dive in Monterey on Saturday.
