Hi-
What boat-dive outfit do you Monterey/Carmel experienced folks recommend? We're going in late July. Looking to rent tanks there as well.
Thanks!
A & J

Escapade is my favorite, tanks included in price, you can book at divecentral.com

good boat and crew, and the fastest boat in the bay to boot!!

Cypress Sea rides better in bumpier conditions then the Express or Escapade. It also provides tanks and fills.

The Express provides tanks too. The compressor isn't on board, so you get two tanks.

The Cypress Sea and the Express will provide Nitrox by prior arrangement. Less prior
arrangement is required on the CS because they pump Nitrox onboard, so they can
usually handle a walk on Nitrox request. I don't know offhand whether Escapade,
the Beach Hopper, the Silver Prince, or Sanctuary provide tanks.

None of the boats provide weights or guides. Weights can be rented in any of the
Monterey shops, and they can also provide guides by prior arangement.

I don't think there are any bad boats in Monterey. Different boats for different folks.
On average, the Cypress Sea and Escapade cater to the more experienced diver. But
any of the boats can have an atypical group on board if that's who chartered it, or
even just booked a bunch of the spots.

I don't think any of the boats as a commerical passenger fishing vessel (party fishing
boat) license anymore, so I don't think any allows hunting. (Anybody know of one
that does?)

See http://www.garlic.com/~triblet/ba_diving/ esp. the parts about diving in kelp and
info for the certified diver new to Monterey.

Escapade definitely provides LP Steel 80's...not sure if you can request nitrox or not..i think so, but not 100% sure

from the escapade site..

What is provided: Beverages, snacks and 2 tanks of air. Nitrox is available when requested at the time of booking.

Thanks for the help everyone - highly appreciated!!

The Silver Prince provides nitrox and/or steel tanks if you call them the night before (or swing by the shop before hitting the boat). If you want something other than 32 or 36ish, they probably need more notice.

They usually provide coffee, water, donuts, bagels and cup-o-soup.
