Has any one ever dove in Mountain Lake in Giles County, Virginia. This is a natural private lake in Southwest Virginia. We used to snorkel in the lake during the summer when attending VA Tech, and always thought it would be a great place to dive.

I used to live at the base of the mountain and have had family there for generations. Was on the Giles County Rescue squad too. My recollection - mostly from the 70's and 80's is of no recreational diving in the area. I have a vague recollection of a recovery operation there but I don't know if scuba was used.

I was on an attempted recovery of a murder victim from Smith Mountain Lake, an artificial lake in the area, and visibility there was well below five feet. Scuba was not used due to depth and conditions. Don't have any specific recollection of Mountain Lake though - beyond driving ambulances up that road in ice and snow. As a trivia item Mountain Lake was used in the loactions shots for the movie "Dirty Dancing".

Calling the hotel should get you the answer you need. I looked on their web site and scuba was not on their long list of possible recreational activities. I bet the lake is silted out, but I could be wrong.
