Do most places have a safe place to keep your money? If not does anyone have any suggestions?
I am not used to traveling with very much cash as I usually use my debit card. What about travelers checks,, are they easy to use or cash? I don't want to use ATM as my bank charges a fee and I definatley don't want to use credit cards and pay the fees they add on. We will be staying at Las Rocas.

I'd contact the hotel/resort you are planning on staying with and ask them. I'd do the same with the Dive Op you are using. Most hotels have in room safes, or at least safes/lock boxes available at the front desk for personal use. Most do NOT change, but you mine as well ask that as well. I've not been to the area you are traveling to, so I can't make a good recommendation other than to say it's best to obtain this type of information from the horses mouth so to speak.

I can't remember any hotel in the Bay Islands that had in room safes, but some of the fancy places in West Bay might. The smaller places may have a single safe where you turn your cash over to management in a sealed envelope. They take traveler's checks in the Bay Islands and the most the ATM's give out at once is 4000 limpera, about $210.

When I've stayed at a place without a room safe, I've kept my cash/valuables locked in my suitcase (or on me) when I'm out of the room.

My brother had money stolen from a front desk safe in Dominican before, so I shy away from those. Each day, $10 or $20 was missing. He noticed and wrote down the exact amount when he handed it in, and sure enough, small bills were missing the next day. I guess a specific sealed envelope would help to keep out prying hands.
