I had been rocking the mk10 turret in the up position, but after recently having this serviced at a new shop it was returned in the turret down position. So my question for all you mk10 owners is up or down?

Definitely down as it is easier for me to route hoses and reduces the chances of snagging something and getting entangled.

I don't own an MK10, but as I recall, that reg has a LP port on the bottom (assuming facing down) of the turret, doesn't it? If so, you couldn't use it facing up, and that looks like a good place for a LP hose on a single tank setup.

either way, I've dived one since about '89 or so & just last year changed it to the down position.......

Not sure I know exactly what you mean. The MK10 turret is the same as that on the late model MK5, MK15, MK18, MK20, MK25. The barrel on all these models can face up or down, whichever fits your setup best. Do you mean that the dive shop reinstalled the hoses on the turret so that it makes sense now for you only with the barrel down? If so, you can simply switch back the hoses and flip the barrel, if that works best for you. If you are very tall, or if you use a BC or wing with a bladder that rides up very high on the tank valve, then the barrel/turret might work best for you in the up position. I have seen wings that make it impossible to route hoses properly with the barrel in the down position.

My Atomic M1 is the same kind of design. I used to dive my Atomic M1 (now delegated to a stage) with a single tank and wing, and to get it to work facing down, I had to twist the barrel slightly off center. I'd use the bottom LP port for my primary hose. Still, the wing would inflate into the 1st stage when fully inflated, so I know what you're saying.

I used to use in the "up" position, but had problems with my head banging the regulator.:shakehead:

Changed to the "down" position and everything seems to work out better. No head bangs, less potential for hitting something or snagging a hose in close environments.:blinking:

Same here, especially with an al 80.

I think in general they most often are set up to point down for a lower profile.

However on Al 80 (which tend to have short necks) and in particular with some very short valves, there is not enough room to do it that way.

Also, if the tank is carried very low for trim reasons, you can have some hose clearance issues with the BC or wing.

Normally when I service a reg, I draw a little map of the hose routing so if you bring me something wierd, you get the same wierd configuration back.
