On second thought, it's not such a good idea from my perspective, because:
- When you pay Tex, PayPal WILL collect 3.4% + $.55 fees per payment
- When Tex pays me, PayPal WILL collect AGAIN 3.4% + $.55 fees
As I understand it, if there is a high level of trust between people doing the transaction, sending a "gift" via PayPal does not incur the fees a normal sale transaction does. The downside to using the "gift" option is there is no recourse if the transaction goes bad. From PayPal's point of view, you weren't expecting anything back from the gift.
Edit - I personally trust y'all enough to risk this small amount of cash.
