(12-06) 05:48 PST Santa Barbara, Calif. (AP) --

The body of a scuba diver who vanished over the weekend in Santa Barbara County has been found near an underwater cave.

The county Sheriff's Department says the body of 27-year-old Kristopher Carlsen was found in crevasse leading into the cave Sunday afternoon.

An air and sea search was launched after Carlsen failed to surface Saturday morning while diving for lobster with his father off of Santa Cruz Island.

The cause of his death is under investigation.

How very painful for the father.

It reminds me to be double safe when diving when such an experienced diver has this terrible result.

I don't know what happened but the buddy diving system and redundant air may have helped.

My condolences to family and friends.

Easy enough to get banged or wedged if the surge catches you while going into some of those shallow through-tubes. Sad no matter what.
