Mattawa: Body of missing diver found near Desert Aire | Latest News | Tri-CityHerald.com
Mattawa — The body of a missing diver was found this morning by his family along the west shore of the Columbia River across from Desert Aire, according of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
The Grant County coroner will not release the name of the missing man, who was 51, until the identity of the body has been confirmed.
The family had requested his name be withheld because some members were traveling abroad and were not aware the man was missing.
On Aug. 19 the man, who is from out of the area, was doing some recreational diving into the river and did not resurface, according to law enforcement reports.
An extensive search was launched after the man was reported missing at 2:45 p.m. last Sunday. His body was found at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Grant County sheriff’s marine deputies, search and rescue divers, the underwater robot of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, global positioning and sonar equipment operated by the Seattle Police Department Harbor Patrol and patrol boats from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Grant County Public Utility District had helped with the search.
