I am even more skeptical if the above reporting correct. 44 miles in 3 hours??? Gotta be typo and it was 4 miles.

Agreed on Typo at 44 miles the curvature of the Earth would have not allowed him to see the light he followed either, even at a decent elevation.

Only if you believe that the earth is actually not flat :no: but you might also believe that the earth is flat and in that case ...
