wow, fair few military veterans here.......i think i might enlist in the navy/army reserve after finishing school, i have always wanted to do that.
is it a better idea to do reserve first then full-time ore should i just go full-time first off?
cheers
PS: sorry for chiming in a thread where i dont qualify........

It's all up to you, but whatever you are offered, make sure you get it in writing at MEPS, don't go on your recruiter's word.

kjpwong, its all up to you. Do some research on both and see what they have to offer and see what you want to do. Both have numerous opportunities and reserve and active have their perks and downfalls. I concur with fishb0y, if you decide to enlist get everything and I do mean everything in writing. Do not take anything by word or promises, tell them you want it in black and white and signed. Do your homework before you go into the recruiters office. I see you're down under, but if you want to know about life at sea PM I will be more than happy to share some sea stories.

kjpwong, all are welcome here. This is a place for everyone who is in or supports the military (regardless of what country that military hails from). Make sure you know exactly what you are getting into. There are several Aussie military members on SB who can tell you more what the Australian military is like. The rest of us can tell you about military life in general. Good luck with your decision and feel free to chime in here anytime.

cheers 2tours n everyone for the advice.
BTW, 2tours, are u home yet back to the US of A or still stuck in iraq? if so, hope you stay safe and have a nice trip home!!
kenny
PS: is there army/navy reserves in the states?

I'm still in Iraq but will be home soon. To answer your question, yes, the US does have reserves for all four branches (army, navy, air force, and marines) as well as an Army National Guard and Air National Guard. The national guards belong to individual states but are also used by the federal government when needed.

hey 2tours,
thanks for the quick reply.
may i ask what are the conditions like in iraq at the moment? in my mind the picture of iraq are broken houses, desert, dust.....chaos (kinda like the movie black hawk down, maybe i have seen to much movies).
anyhow, thanks for the info and i will try to find the aussie veterans in SB and find out more about enlisting.
cheers and stay safe
kenny :)
