Hi,
Haven't made a decision yet.

Turns out inspection of equipment will be about 90 USD.
I can get a Mikron 1st 2nd and Octopus for about 360 USD, which is a great price.
It's just a wee bit more than getting the used one and adding an octopus and getting it inspected.
And it's strange having a Mikron 1st, Titan 2nd and probably calypso third...

However, my cousin told me something like: this looks new, regs are made to be tough.
If it's good quality and you hook it to a tank and it works, you can take it to the shop where you buy the octopus and pressure gauge- they will connect it and make sure it's working okay.
If that's true, I might make a lowball offer for the reg and see.

I assume the 90 dollars is to service and not just inspect?
Your options kinda depend on your comfort level and risk tolerance. You could just by the regulator, test it on a tank and then go dive. A better choice is to get it inspected by the LDS or check it out yourself with a rental tank and an IP pressure gauge.

Regulator checklist and inspection

Honestly, I would just get the real deal, a full Mikron first, second and octo. There is a beauty and ease of maintaince/service to a consistent reg set and I think a full Mikron set is worth a few extra dollars (over the option you are looking at now).

Current Titan and Calypso 2nd stages, both primary and octo, are identical except for front cover, and the Octo does not use the Comfobite mouthpiece.
I am 99 percent sure this is true for the Mikrons as well, just a different purge cover and mouthpiece. In fact, I use an “octopus” as my primary since I use a primary donate configuration. And the mouthpiece is easy enough to replace. So with the linked set you could use the Titan as your alternate and use a new Mikron octopus as your primary. This actually isn’t a half bad idea. Especially if you can get it cheaper.

The photo below shows the “octopus” as my primary donate. (please ignore the fact that my secondary is on an octo holder and not in my necklace bungee. The bungee was lost overboard on a prior dive and I engineered an alternative for that dive. )

In case I wasn't clear - no difference between Titan 2nd and Calypso 2nd.

Quick update.

I bought the regulator.

It arrived and seems to be new.

However, when I took it to the shop for adding Octopus, the guy said it's a Calypso with a Titan cover....
Can you tell this from the picture?

I don't know what distinction they are making, or attempting to make. The current Titan and Calypso 2nd stages are identical - with the single exception of the cover - and have been for several years. If he is thinking of a Titan LX, now discontinued, then THAT is a totally different 2nd stage.

Okay.
I see.
Calypso is still a nice reg, right?
The set got its first dips today and I survived -:)
