I am considering buying the Oceanic Atom 2.0 PDC, but I would like to evaluate the OceanLog software first (ver 2.2.1). I need to migrate my existing dive log data to OceanLog from the log program I am currently using, Suunto Dive Manager (SDM), ver 2.6.0. SDM can export in the following formats:
  • .CSV
  • .ZXL (DL7 file)
  • .ZXU (DL7 Level 1 file)
  • .SDE (Suunto proprietary format - Suunto Dive Export file)

OceanLog appears to be able to import only .MDB format (Microsoft Access). I don't have a copy of Access. So far, I'm stuck - the file formats recognized by OceanLog and SDM don't match up.

Any help on how to migrate the data from SDM to OceanLog would be appreciated. Thanks.

As far as eval goes. You can download OceanLog for free and play with it
without having to do any actual dive downloads or imports.
The default install includes several sample dives for each of the Oceanic Computers.
You should be able to get a good feel for what it does and how it
works other than the actual download process itself.

As far as importing dive your existing dive data goes,
you are out of luck. OceanLog only supports Oceanic branded dive computers.
Also, OceanLog can only import data from an older 1.x Oceanlog database.
And even then, only into a newly created database.
So even if you have an existing OceanLog 2.x database, there is no way to import
any dives from any other source including another OceanLog 1.x or 2.x database.
OceanLog won't even allow you import dive data from an Aeris dive computer.

If you want/need to have support for different brands of dive computers
look at a 3rd party s/w package.
Here are couple that are very feature rich:
Scubase
DivingLog

Both will support many different computers and import types.
And both have free evaluation versions that you can download and play with.

While they support many different brands of computers, direct
download form the dive computer is not available on all of them.
With many of them you will still need to use the manufacturer supplied s/w
to actually download the computer.
For those, the 3rd party s/w reads the database or in some cases an export file
created by the manufacturer.
