Might be a silly question, but: Can you change the swivel hose for a 7' on the Z3?

I like the 7' hose and would want to change out the included hose for the 7' hose. I can't tell by the pictures if the hose can be changed out easily (I would hope so) and does it connect to the swivel or is the swivel an integral part of the hose?

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. I think you mean the connection to the second stage regulator which should have a swivel on it. The 7' hose is just a hose. SWitching it out is very easy. Just remember you are dealing with plated brass, so no cranking down hard when tightening things back up.

Yes I mean the connection to the second stage. The pictures I can find of the Z3 seen to show the swivel as part of the hose, not a separate part like I am used to seeing If the hose screws into the swivel and swivel screws into the 2nd stage then I am okay (actually, I am okay either way as the 7' hose eliminates the pull when you turn your head anyway). So all in all, it seems that replacing the hose on this one is no different than on other regs I have done before. Thanks

When I had the hose replaced on my B1 to add the swivel it involved changing the entire hose. I saw it before it was installed and the hose/swivel came as one piece from AA. I'm not sure the hose and swivel can be separated. If nobody can answer for sure beforehand I'll take a closer look at mine when I get home this evening and see if it's possible.

ETA: The second stage utilizes a standard connection whether you use the swivel or not. You wouldn't have any trouble removing the standard hose and swivel and replacing it with a 7' hose.

Thanks, that what I figured and I'm not really worried about the swivel anyway, but if it's separate it would interesting to try it with the 7' hose.

Please post a pic of EXACTLY what part you are talking about. I'm confused whether you are talking about the standard 2nd stage part that allows the reg to rotate on the hose ( so it doesn't bind), or are you talking some aftermarket piece? I can't find a pic of a Z3 that has anything but the normal setup.

OK, I think I found it..

Is that ball-piece what you are asking about? I've never seen one first hand, so I couldn't answer. Surely that sand-holder, err hose boot comes off and you can see if the hose connects to the that weird swivel thing or if it's part of the hose.

OK, some more research here pulled up an older SB post which said this " The fitting for the swivel is permanently attached to the hose. So yes you are buying the complete assembly hose and swivel. That said there are two swivel housings, one for Atomic regs and the other is universal for other regs."

So you may be SOL with your regs.

If you replace the swivel hose with a std hose you will need to buy and install a jam nut. As said the swivel is part of the hose. AA will make swivel hoses of any length you want. I have 5 and 7 foot hoses with swivels.

Do you know where I can get the jam nut? I have very limited access to a LDS here and would probably have to order it online, thanks

Hi Charles..Thank you for your inquiry and thank you to everyone for the help. The Jam Nut (part number 02-0037-00) can be ordered through any online retailer as well. If you don't have an LDS there are several online retailers that keep plenty of inventory. One of which advertises on this site quite often...I don't want to mention or recommend one but there are several that can help with that part. Thanks All!

Thanks to everyone who replied. I wanted to update you to let you know that I completed the conversion of my Z3 to a 7" myflex hose. The process was simple, removed the original hose with swivel, removed the O ring, installed the jam nut and hose and then tested it. Worked like a charm, the secret is to order the jam nut and remember to remove the O ring.
