I am going to replace my wife's hoses with Miflex and since they come in 26" and 30" - I am trying to decide which length to purchase. I would like to get the shorter hose to reduce the large loop, but I have concerns that the 26" might be a problem.

I have tried to talk her into going to a long hose arrangement - but she tried mine and does not like it.

Her current 2nd has a 30" rubber hose and I was wondering if replacing it with a 26" Milflex would be OK or would it be too short and pull on her mouth?

My wife uses the 26" Miflex and she thinks it is great. It solved all regulator pull issues.
She was using it with a Scubapro D400 which is a very light weight regulator, but now she is using a metal Scubapro Balanced Adjustable (109) and it is just as comfortable for her.

The hose is so flexible that for her it works fine with the short length.

I use a 22 for my bungeed backup. A 26 should be fine for the primary if you're not going to a long hose.

If when you say 2nd you are rferring to her primary then a 26" Miflex will be fine, they are quite a bit more flexible. FWIW I have a 22" neckalced back up and have had no problems breathing from it length wise (single tank).

FWIW I changed the 29" hose on one of my Titan LX's to a 30" miflex, which was the closest size. Although usable, 30" seems a bit too long, so I am going to relegate that hose to one of my backup regs and try a 26".

Hi Luis,

What length hose did she replace?

thanks,

Couv

I replaced the 29" hose on my Apeks with a 26" Miflex and it is perfect. No hose pull and no hose flapping in high current. I also replaced my HP hose with a 36" Miflex, but I wish I had used a shorter hose. The HP hose is so light it flops around my head when I jump in. I know it's a small thing, but it's so flexible, I could have used a shorter HP hose and still easily use my console mount compass.

I am guessing it was a 30" or whatever is standard, but I am not sure. I set up two identical regulators for her (one as a backup), but I didn't keep track of hose length (they are both Titan 1st with Scubapro BA 2nd).

I personally don't have any of these issues... My hoses are much more flexible than the Miflex and the two hoses balance each other perfectly. There is absolutely no pull or any such thing. :D
I tend to forget what all the fuss is about... :wink:

Would it be a good guess to cut ~2" from the original hose when replacing with Miflex?

Like:
Octo, orginal 38" => 36" Miflex
Primary, original 32" => 30" Miflex
HP 32 => 30" Miflex HP

However, reading this post, it seems you guys are cutting even more. Based on 'yellow color' only available >= 36 (apparently), isn't using 30" for octo in blue/black short for sharing air, and also not too obvious for the buddy to pick ?

thanks

Hi stargost,

My input would be that while you can use a shorter Miflex hose due to it's increased flexability, be sure that is really what is ideal for the application. I would actually go the same or longer on the octo (I think most standard octos are a bit short as it is).

As far as color: I dive a 5' black primary (Miflex) and my backup is on a bungie around my neck... in other words, I donate the primary, and my buddy(s) know this; but were I diving a "standard" recreational setup I'd probably keep the octo hose yellow so your buddy can find it, especially if diving with insta-buddies.

Just my 2 cents. You can use any color you want as long as your buddy knows how you have your backup rigged.

Best wishes.
