I'm a novice, my current (first) reg is a Micra Adj with Aqualung Cousteau 1st stage that I got 2nd hand and am pretty happy with (only been down to 60ft though).

I just ordered an Oceanic GT3/CDX5 that I bought on a spur of the moment for an extremely good price. Before it arrives I am curious what people think of this reg.

Sure I can try it out and see for myself, but I can also sell it unused and still in the box too so opinions are welcome.

The GT3/CDX5 is a good regulator. I think you'll like it much better than the bottom of the line Micra/Cousteau.

I'd say the GT3/CDX5 appears to be one of the better regs for the money (on what it costs).

I would not call the Micra/Cousteau bottom of the line...I still use both from time to time...the Micra is a pain to service.....The GT3/CDX5 looks good on the bench with a very low cracking pressure...the guys in the shop use them over the Delta 4 and are pleased...

The 2 represent different generations of design, the Micra Adj is a good second stage, mine (I have 3) have all moved to Titan 1st stages. The Micra on a Cousteau tuned properly is a very good reg even at depth. Sure there are regs with better specs but they aren’t 20+ year old designs.

The Micra Adjust was the Micra with an adjustable valve put into it, it is hard to service and was a hacked together design, but that said thousands are still in service and it was the first of the tiny second stages.

I bought a GT3 / CDX-5 just before, and have been diving with it every week. It works great for me, I love it. Have had it down to 30m ( about 100 ft ) .... and it breathes great.

When I bought it, my dive shop connected the second stage to one of the front ports on the first stage .... the oceanic recommendation is for it to be in the rear port. I got them to switch it, and I think it did feel slightly more comfortable in my mouth.

Thanks for all the input! I'll definitely be trying the GT3 when I get it, I'll keep whatever one I like most.

One thing I've noticed is that the CDX5 seems to have less than ideal port locations (one of the things I like about the Cousteau 1st stage is the hose routing).

Does the primary port on the CDX5 come out pointing slighty towards the rear, or does it just seem that way?
