Methacholine challenge, military, and diving (SCUBA and sky)

aaahhhhhhh.... yes I do remember ya! SDC seems to be quite an uncivilized place... I'll admit though, I do jump into those battles quite frequently. I'll try to be a good boy here though hehehehehehe...

Well, I have been talking to recruiters for several years now, and until the last 6 months, they've been telling me "It's impossible." So, I kept putting it off. Now, they're actually going to give me a test to see if I have it or not. In the US Army Regulation 40-501 Standards of Medical Fitness, dated 30 Sep 2002, it states basically that asthma, anything close to it, or a history of it is disqualifying. Period. Then, the go on to rant about some things regarding it, but they have a paragraph that says if the diagnosis is in question, then these tests may be administered. I've been told though that people do get in with asthma, in fact my recruiter signed someone within the last few weeks with asthma. So, it's looking pretty good, I think...

I do also hope I can go diving soon. I'd LOVE to go down!!

Pulmonary funtion test will a baseline evaluation of your lung funtion mainly looking for obstructive airways disease. Methacholine will be repeating the pulmonary function tests after the administration of methacholine in progressive dosages. A + test will be a preset drop in lunf function-usually 20%. If you drop and the test is +, they will then give you a bronhodilator to reverse the airway constriction
