The cost is a bit steep, doesn't sound as if you have had a good return on your investment either.

But I really would like to take it out in my lake as well. It is easy to maneuver under water?

I would love to get one for Joe for his birthday.

How is it above water?

I haven't realy used it to much damn lobsters :-)
One good find will pay it back!
Its one of those things go out and get lobsters and swim with cool marine life.
Or swim around on the bottom scooping up mud :-)
It works good out of the water but it finds all metal.
You wouldn't believe how much stuff is in the ground!Ive also used it around old foundations around here.
Found some cool stuff a gold heart shaped locket once!
Looked about 100 years old. put it in my coveralls pocket when I
got to the truck it was gone :-( Guess some stuff likes staying lost? Im going to try to hit some beachs this april.
oh Yea its real easy to use underwater.

dsgobie once bubbled...

Do you do any metal detecting??

No, not really. I borrowed one once from the owner of my LDS to hunt for a stolen gun that was thrown in a canal. I had previously searched the canal and recovered all of the other items, but the gun eluded me.

I went back with the fisher a few weeks later and found the gun in less than 5 minutes (I already had a pretty good idea on exactly where to look).

Speaking of looking, I need to try and remember to look for the number of the guy that owned it so I can tell him I recovered it...

just to know, how much are you asking. right now i don't have any $$ to spend. but might want to get into the hobby. just wanted to know how much a used dector is.

misread your post.
I have a JW fisher 8x and want to find someone else to detect with!!
i replaced the one in someone with thing so it read "want to find something else..."

Ebay has some good buys on used ones!
I think the range for new underwater metal detectors is from
500$ to about 2000$
