I know most Cave divers go to the Mainland to go cave diving. I had some experience diving in the caves of Cozumel so I booked a couple of dives on the island with Deep Exposure. It happened that the guide they hired was my Cave Instructor German Yanez. We dove Aerolito for the first dive. It was the second dive that was memorable.
The second dive was done at "1 Klick" . We had to trudge through the jungle to get to the actual cenote. What made this a memorable dive was seeing the Mayan pottery in the cave. I also got to see a live "Remipedia". What is it? It is a unique primitive crustacean that is found in low-oxygen, brackish water caves. German knew all about it because of his background as a research diver for the University of Mexico.
Unlike the most of the caves that I have dove in Florida, the line arrows do not have the distance of the exit marked on the line arrows, so I don't know how far in we were. It the excitement I never got that information from German.
When I go back to Cozumel, I will always go diving in the caves too
