The two extreme color variations of Hermissenda crassicornis. The one on the left is normally seen in Southern California, the one on the right in Northern California, Oregon, and Washington. They are both seen in Morro Bay, CA, sometimes right next to each other like this.

This nudibranch Aeolidia papillosa is fairly unusual in California, so I was excited as I set up the shot. Then I saw what he was crawling on.

Thanks Jon. I've never seen that before. There are a lot of the little sand dabs flitting around on the bottom but this is the first time I saw a nudibranch crawl over one. The sand dab had limited patience, he shot away right after my strobes fired. The nudibranch looked startled, or as close as it gets to a startled nudibranch. ++Ken++
