Ok. I just got myself a new 1080p Hi Def. television. Wow. I am watching the rebreather movie "The Cave". There's nothing quite like watching a poorly written, but well shot movie on a large screen.

Anyway, I could swear I see the Meg HUD flashing .8. What do you set your little flashing light at?

hehehe :lotsalove::rofl3:

Oh yes it is, that's hollywood for you if its dark and flashing red, it dangerous. :D

Having said that.

Setpoint 1.3

That is 3 Green flashes per cell.

Setting at a lower p02 might be prudent if you are going to be in the water for a long period of time. Or doing multiple long dives. Like one might do if filming underwater scenes for a movie.

Maybe "LOF" of Golem gear will respond since he's on this board and was one of the divers for this movie.

Diving for a long period or diving in 10 to 20 ft of water on a movie set. Many Meg diver including myself will dive a set point of .7 to about 30ft deep and switch to a higher set point (1.2 -1.3) for the deeper part of the dive.

Cheers

To answer the OP's question, you don't "set your little flashing light" at anything. The flashing light on the HUD is only telling you what te secondary controller is reading the PO2 at. You set the setpoint via the primary controller handset.

It is very hard to maintain a setpoint above 1.3 at 10ft where most of that movie was made.
Keeping the setpoint at probably 0.7 since there is no 0.8 setting on a meg is much easier and still results in a safe oxygen exposure although I am sure Dalton has more to do with it than anything.

This is fun! It's like a thread on Rebreatherworld. Bordering on pedantic.

If we've been diving RB's we know that maintaining a setpoint in the .7 range is somewhat ideal prior to splashing in. Heck, that's what I learned in the UK many, many years ago. As I look more at the movie I see red flashes in all sorts of ranges. Heck why! It is Hollywood as previously said. I’m all for crazy flashes!

I am trying to remember a prototype Meg I dove before public release. It had Will Smither’s original code & can't remember the HUD. It was shallow and I had a long day of UW filming. What was it set to flash at? :D

And here I thought you were talking about the fossil shark...

i actually though they were talking aboot Mr X's new big screen :D

it just be a plasma & guy thing... when we got the 50" plasma hubby made me endure the cave (again) also!!

The current release of the meg uses the Smithers algorithm. The flashes you were seeing in the movie was based on Will's design
