October Shark Bait Dive Club Meeting
TOPIC: Diving in Indonesia & Lembeh Strait
This month Shark Bait Dive Club is pleased to host Lembeh Resort's Danny Charlton. Danny is in the States to attend the DEMA show in Orlando next month. He takes this opportunity to visit his brother who lives in the Denver area. We are very lucky to get this Indonesia diving enthusiast to speak at the club this month!
Danny Charlton started a live aboard on Bali in 1996. During this time, he met his wife, Angelique Batuna, who is from Manado, North Sulawesi. Angeliques father, Dr. Han Batuna, is the pioneer of scuba diving in North Sulawesi, Indonesia starting as a hobby in the early 70s and opening Murex Dive Resort in 1988. From 1999 until 2004, Danny managed Murex.
Lembeh Resort was opened separately from Murex in December 2002. They started the dive center with six staff, a rebuilt compressor and a borrowed boat. Today they have nearly 30 staff members with 11 dive guides and six boats!
For the past year, they have been exploring a totally new dive area, Buyat Bay. Diving in Buyat is different from Lembeh but they are also discovering some fantastic muck sites there too. Buyat is a perfect compliment to Lembeh.
Danny been fortunate to dive many areas of Indonesia including Raja Ampat, Komodo and NE Kalimantan. This does not make him an expert, but he is always happy to help divers put together an Indonesia dive holiday, because sooner or later, your travels will include Lembeh Strait!
The presentation discusses demographics of Indonesia, travel tips, different dive locations, the Coral Triangle, Lembeh, Buyat and of course great diving images!
