Yeah kind of but not really. Sorry I was a little unclear. The first time you apply to get the visa its around 3.5 mil depending on what agency you use or you can do it yourself and the cost is USD $50 and IDR 200,000 for the telex. Once you have the visa and enter Indonesia it is good for 60 days then after 60 days stay in country you need to renew it every 30 days. The renewal fee is 500k each time if you do it yourself.

more info can be found on the Indonesia Immigration official website. Permohonan Visa Republik Indonesia - Bisnis - B211A - Direktorat
You need a guarantor, as far I can find.

Yeah hence the reason to use an agency. I have come and gone in and out of Indonesia several times now since last year. Its very easy and anyone can do it. Don't believe me well how do you think like all the thousands of tourist/foreigners hanging out in Canggu/Semiyank right now got in. Restaurants are full, night clubs, bars, beach's etc. and traffic is about the same as it was pre-corona. The shortcut road in Canggu is an absolute mess.

A digital nomad got deported last year for talking about this on her blog/vlog. I don't think that she's ever allowed to get back in.

Be careful out there.

And you answered the reason in the first 3 words "A digital nomad" Please check the official Indonesia Immigration Government website that I have referenced numerous times for the details on what you can and can not do with a 211a visa Permohonan Visa Republik Indonesia - Bisnis - B211A - Direktorat working and making money in Indonesia is not one of them.

Lots and lots of "digital nomads" and other expats working illegally in Indonesia get deported every year even be for Corona. You need a KITAS and Indonesia Tax ID to work and make money in Indonesia. People working as digital nomads or working under a 211a visa are braking a Indonesia labor laws hence why there deported. This is the same as foreigners working illegally in the USA on a non working visa.

If your not braking the rules clearly listed on the Indonesia Immigration website then you have no reason to "be careful". Its pretty simple when your in a foreign country be follow there rules, be respectful and you will not have any issues or need to worry.

Please explain to me how you "tourist" under 211A without being invited to do so?

Once again I am going to reference the official Indonesia Immigration website. I am not an expert on Indonesian Immigration nor am I an agent, nor able to provide official guidance regarding immigration issues to Indonesia so no I can not explain this.

But if you actually read the website Permohonan Visa Republik Indonesia - Bisnis - B211A - Direktorat it states "Guarantee letter from the Guarantor except for visits in the context of tourism;" so to answer your question read the website and you can answer it yourself.

Once you're in, how much of the country is open in practical terms? What about the land-based and live-aboard dive op.s? What I'm getting at is, right now, and in the context of this being a dive forum, once you're in Indonesia, how does the experience now differ vs. what was normal pre-pandemic?

You are free to travel domestically. If you are flying then you need proof of vaccination 1st shot (can be a foreign one, last time I was in the US picked up the Pfizer shot so I could get into the EU and the little print out from CVS is all I show and I have had no issues traveling around Indonesia) and Antigen test taken 24hr be for your flight. Check Traveloka (local Indonesia version of Expedia, skyscanner, etc.) for latest flight info but there are tons of flight all over Indonesia radially available. Diving is great!!!! Just yesterday I had an amazing encounter with a live nautilus, and over the past month have seen several hammerheads sharks, thresher sharks, mola mola and even a rare snaggletooth shark. This trip I have been here since July and have been averaging about 6-10hr a week of diving since I have been here. I even did an epic 1.5 month expedition to a remote area of SE Sulawesi for some cave diving exploration and laid a lot of new line. Pretty much every major dive area in Indonesia land based or liveaboard has diving available if you want to dive someone can help you. Several really good deals on liveaboards right now for Raja as its that time of the year. Earlier there were lots of good Komodo deals also. For price reference the Misool trip I booked was 2,200 Euro for 10n 11d but that was with a group of friends.

In July when the Delta variant hit Indonesia hard you could not get O2 but now O2, Helium, and Sofnolime is readily available so no issues there as well. For price reference last month I bought a G of helium and it was IDR 5.6mil (about USD$400) which for Indonesia is really good. And sorb as always is expensive as hell. Last two tubs I bought were IDR 3.8mil per tub (about USD$270)

Only difference between normal be for corona and now is that there are far less tourist which is actually very very nice reminds me of how Bali use to be 10 years ago. Yes lots of diver centers are closed but there are still several open as there is still quite a bit of diving going on. I don't think there is a single place you can not dive I even had a good friend make a trip up to UnaUna 2 months ago to give you and idea of how remote you can get and still go diving. Remember international tourism is a very small industry for Indonesia as a whole. So really only Bali some of Lombok and very select dive destination think Labuan Bajo, Manado, etc. are affected by the lack of tourist. The rest of the country continues on with regular business. Also there is still a very very large amount of local tourism, there are tons of rich Jakarta tourist that do long weekend diving trips to all the same places foreigners go and some very very high end liveaboards.
