Medical ID Tags and diving

I was just reading Dive Training magazine and found some interesting discussion whether to wear medical ID tag (http://www.roadid.com/wrist_learnmore.asp?back=/id.asppoundsignwrist ) on the dives.

I believe this is a great idea to have any type of ID tag with contact information’s in case of emergency.


I was wondering what you guys think about this and/or any one is actually using ID tags when diving.

I have a DAN tag on my logbook and a page in my logbook that has all my current medical information as well as emergency contact information, certification information, personal identification, etc. I don't wear anything in the water, figuring that, in the event of an emergency, someone will be looking for my log.

I wear the DAN tag that reefraf mentioned in his message. My wife and daughter wear also wear DAN tags on their BC.

I do a lot of running and biking by myself and Diving with people that don't know me. I have often thought about not having ID on my immediate person and this take care of it. I just order one ... thanks for the lead

I've been thinking of buying a DAN tag. Does the info inside really stay protected and dry?

Don't carry them, but 'dog tags' are cheaper and easier made. If you change address/phone number/ medication, allergies etc... easier to make dog tags, than to order order new DAN tags.... Many sites out there.....

Yes. I've had them for years.

I've worn aluminum medical dog tags especially when diving for years. Inexpensive and have many uses.

I think that this is a great idea...especially if you have any medication allergies or medical conditions.

The DAN tags do stay dry, and they can identify your use of DAN also. I agree that the dog tags are easier to change, but the DAN tag is nice simply because I like supporting them, and it might remind someone who helps me out that DAN is an excellent resource.
