Has anyone been to Media Luna Resort? There is not much information out there yet and I'd like to know what divers are experiencing there.

The DM's that I spoke with last week said there was no dive op working there yet. They might be way off on that, but that's what they had.

A curious place- it was under construction for several years with barely any headway. Then, wham. I hope the erosion surrounding the inner shore of the "Half Moon Bay" will not lay waste to this area's reef.

here is link to dive op located at media luna resort Aqua Adventures Roatan, Daily Diving, Padi Scuba Courses, Bay Islands Tours & Sport Fishing

i have looked at media luna's web site, & also on trip advisor, i think you guys may come out smelling like a rose on this deal..
the only thing is i could not see if this is a all inclusive resort !!

I have also been very disappointed in the website...I think that is something that needs to be addressed right away because I know most interested parties first go to the internet to perform research about destinations they are interested in.

In our case, it is absolutely all-inclusive. I think the marketing for the property needs to be much more clear, and if they re-vamp their website it would be very helpful. I think this is a new venue and all of those issues need to be addressed. Since it is so brand new, there is just not a whole lot of diving information out there. I am assured that they have a good dive shop and that the diving is almost "valet" diving. The first two divers in our group are arriving today, so hopefully they will call me and let me know the "lay of the land" so to speak.

We will be arriving on Saturday and I am going to do my best to blog from Media Luna and let my scuba buddies know about the newest venue on the island. I'll even post pictures! I'll let you know what the dive shop is like and the whole dive experience. But if anyone has firsthand experience I'd love to hear about it before we go...

I am in pretty much the same boat as you Cajun Diva, we had reservations for FI for the end of the month. Then I get a e-mail from FI saying they are awaiting payment. I called Rich immediately. I had met Rich last year when we were at FI. Anyway, when I called him he gave me a cliff note version of what happened. Then he assured me that I will have a place to stay when we arrive on April 30. He described Media Luna as a 5 star resort. I was guaranteed 3 dives a day if I wanted. My wife and I got certified in Nitrox this past week, just for this trip. Rich said he will make sure there is nitrox for us.
We are disappointed that we will not be staying at FI, but if Media Luna is anything like Rich described, it should be a great trip.

I know exactly how you feel. When going through such a traumatic experience, it becomes difficult to know who to trust. I felt the need to answer your post and let you know that I just received a telephone call from the first two divers in our group to arrive at Media Luna Resort. They will be there waiting for us when we arrive. Since we were all embroiled in turmoil until just before they left for Houston and were unsure what to think about all of this, they called this afternoon when they arrived just to let us know that everything is fine. The arrangements are just as promised. They were welcomed with open arms by the staff at Media Luna. I almost had to laugh (mostly with relief!) because my friends were so blown away by the sheer beauty of Media Luna that they were having a hard time putting it into words! They went to their room first, which they said was absolutely phenomenal, and then couldn't wait to get down to the gorgeous beach and dip their toes in the water :D They said the view was incredible.

So rest easy and start looking forward to a fabulous vacation, because it looks like this experience will be much better than any of us ever hoped :coolingoff:

:D That is great to hear. It kind of sets my mind at ease a little. This trip has been a pain for us. We should have been down there last week. From April 9 to the 16th. But my wife had her gallbladder removed 2 weeks before that. So to be safe we pushed our trip back a few weeks. Rich was great changing our reservations, and Continental airlines was not bad dealing with. We actually got our flight cheaper.

So now to hear the resort is beautiful makes it all worth while. I hope.

Keep us informed if you could.
Thanks

The dive operation has been open for quite a while (since early January - but they were using East End Divers boat then - now they have their own). Gary McLaughlin and his wife Mirta are awesome and you will be in good hands. Gary, a local, also has Mad Max Fishing Charter at West End. The resort is very beautiful and the times we have eaten there, the food has been excellent. I think you will enjoy the peace and quiet of the awesome cove, which was previously called "Half Moon Bay." I live just east of it (Caribe Point) and go there often by kayak. :)
