We have a family reunion planned for the end of December in Kehei. There will be 5 divers among the group and we are looking forward to some great dives. Molokini is at the top of the list. We were looking at B&B or Mike Severns to dive with, but was wondering about the expected conditions then. There are those amongst the group that are prone to seasickness (that would be me) and I understand it's about a 45 minute run to Molokini. Is there a charter that runs a bigger boat? What are the chances of being able to dive Molokini then (especially the outer side)? Thanks.

It's only about a 15-20 minute boat ride from Kihei to Molokini. You might be thinking of the boat ride from Lahaina, which is 45 minutes to an hour each direction. If you are prone to any kind of motion sickness, I'd strongly recommend that you take some sort of seasick medication. A Bonine (non-drowsy) the night before and one the morning of the charter should do it for you.

As far as dive ops out of Kihei, you can't go wrong with B&B, Mike Severns, or Ed Robinsons. If you want to do some shore diving in S. Maui, give Shaka Doug a holler....I hear he's "da man" on Maui for shore diving. :D You can also hook up with other ScubaBoard members like Tim (Kidspot) to do some diving up in the Lahaina area.
