I certed in May/02 at Maui Diving Scuba Center in Lahaina. It was great -- the instructor (Dan) had an awesome way of teaching that just disarmed any concerns and apprehensions I was having.

I would totally recommend them for the cert course:

I also took a charter with the Maui Diamond II out of Ma'alaea Harbour to Molokini and Turtle Town. It was a great trip with great people.

The only one I would suggest avoiding: Maui Dive Shop -- rumour has it they manage to kill at least one student a year!

Overall, I'm sure you'll have a great trip!

Just out with them in April. Their new boat is very nice.
I don't remember the boat ride being too long to Molikini.
They do take care of you, great for a new diver. They also feed you.
Regardless, It would be a mistake to dive Maui and miss Molikini.
Inside is perfect for beginners and experts alike. Large enough to dive twice. Part of it seemed to be a baby reef shark nursury.
Lanai was a mistake for us. 10-12 foot swells that day, it ruled out 3/4 of the sites there, I think the cathedrals are the choice dive there. Sad to find out later that their other boat, scheduled for the back wall, went to Molikai instead and saw some hammerheads.
Speaking of the back wall, I wouldn't miss that either. My wife did it back in 94, I think it was her 2nd open water dive. It depends on the seas that day. Getting back in the boat in very high seas is really tough.
